Fashion, Fun, & a little Food

Hope your weekend is off to a good start! Mine definitely is. Last night I headed out with my girlfriends to do some karaoke! We went to this place called the Rockbox where you get your own private room, so no waiting through a long line of people waiting to hear your name or listening to songs you don’t like. Such a fun time! Although this morning is a little bit rough as there was a lot of champagne involved…

The outfit I wore was inspired by this picture I found on Pinterest, I loved this gorgeous woman’s pairing of cobalt jeans with a blush blouse and said to myself, “hey, I can do that!”

So here is my version using my blush blouse with gold polka dots that you’ve already seen a number of times before.

Have a wonderful rest of the weekend!

Happy Valentine’s Day to all of you! Hope you get to spend some time with loved ones, whether a significant other, family, or friends. Michael and I were going to go out to dinner tonight, but as we are leaving for Playa Del Carmen tomorrow, we decided to stay in for dinner and finish getting packed up instead. Don’t want to be stressing about what I am forgetting while out somewhere nice, I hate packing…

I went to run errands this morning so threw this outfit together. Red jeans seemed appropriate for the holiday, and this sweatshirt is so comfy. My hair is less than fabulous today, but I was headed to Crossfit a few hours later so didn’t bother doing much. At least I put on make-up!

I will have one more scheduled post for Saturday, but other than that I’m off to Mexico for a week! My stylish friend Reina will be doing some guest blogging again while I am gone, and I’m sure will entertain you with some fabulous outfits. : )

Happy Tuesday everyone, hope you all had a fabulous weekend.

I feel very lucky to be guest blogging over at Marionberry Style today, be sure to pop over to get my recipe for Cumin and Curry Sliders! I absolutely adore Marion’s blog, her amazing style and sense of humor are always appreciated.

Last night our friend’s Illi and Olivia came over for dinner. Olivia has a baby due on Thursday so it was very nice of them to come join us and very nice for the baby to stay put for the evening : )

For a casual evening in I decided to wear my polka dot skimmers along with a fun windowpane sweater I picked up when we did some tax free shopping this past weekend in Portland. I have bare feet because my husband cares more about keeping our floors pretty than he does about my outfits having a cute pair of shoes…

(Coco decided to make an appearance in my second picture, isn’t she cute with her stylish pink collar?)

The weekend is sadly coming to an end…it has been such a fun and relaxing one for us! Mostly because it has been so sunny and warm, you can’t help but be happy.

Friday night some friends of ours who couldn’t make my 30th birthday party took me out to an amazing dinner at a restaurant here called Palace Kitchen – delicious food and wonderful company. I wore a jumpsuit I picked up for $40 at the Loft 50% off event last week. I’m honestly not even sure why I tried this on – I mean, where am I wearing a jumpsuit?? But I walked out in it to use the 3 way mirror, and everyone in the dressing room said I had to have it! I’m such a sucker. Funny right after I bought it, Marion did this post on jumpsuits so maybe it was meant to be. Even my hubby liked it, which kind of surprised me! What do you think, would you ever give a jumpsuit a shot?

I’m off to work in the LA area tomorrow morning on a bright and early 8am flight. I will be working on a project there Monday – Friday and then will be spending the weekend with my sorority big sis, Jessica, to go to the Kenny Chesney concert at Angel Stadium. I am so excited! Jessica is the audiologist for Kenny Chesney’s tour manager and he hooks us up with free tickets in the “sandpit” which is the area right in front of the stage and it is amazing – he also got us tickets to see him at Qwest here in Seattle a few years back.

I fly home late Sunday night, and then Tuesday night Michael and I are on a red eye to NY for his sister’s wedding. Needless to say, the next few weeks are going to be a bit crazy for me, but I will get a post in here and there when I can. If anyone wants to do a guest post for me though, just let me know!

Have a fabulous week!

The sun decided to make an appearance finally here at the end of June – Summer might be on it’s way after all! The heat wave on the East Coast has apparently sucked any sort of heat we may have gotten and left us with rain, rain, and more rain. But today was a lovely sunny day above 70 so I took advantage and pulled out some royal blue shorts I haven’t had the chance to wear yet. In sticking with my red, white, and blue theme week, I paired with a white open knit sweater, gold jewelry, and pulled out some fun striped wedges. I have learned while I own a lot of blue and white, I only have about 5 red pieces in my closet, so I let my purse add the pop of red.

Tonight our friend’s, Emily and Nick, are coming over for dinner, so I’m looking forward to that. I’m a little bit nervous to cook though, because Nick is amazing in the kitchen (Check out Emily’s blog – He Cooks, She Shops to see what I mean), but hopefully they will enjoy what we grill up – I’m making citrus marintated flank steak, ginger lime shrimp, as well as grilled asparagus and onions.

Happy Hump Day, it’s all downhill from here!

I’m very excited for a fun Thursday night! I’m headed over to Bellevue, to a new jazz club that just opened up, for a show with my very stylish friends, Mollie and Jaymee.

I don’t think I’m going to have a better reason to pull out my hot pink dress for awhile, so I decided to dress it down a bit from the last time you saw it by adding more casual accessories. I wore it to my sister in law’s wedding shower with sparkly shoes and a gold statement necklace, so to make it more casual, I instead paired with my cork heeled sandals that you will basically be seeing with everything, a more casual necklace (I find chunky turquoise to be great to dress things down), and a Summery white clutch.

How do you make a dress more casual?

Happy Friday’s Eve!

Well I’m finally back from New York, and although I was sad to leave, it is good to be home with my hubby and kitty kids.

First a few pictures from the end of my trip to New York.

Thursday night my mother in law, sister in law, and I had a fun night out to dinner, just us girls. I wore my white Citizen’s jeans which I absolutely love and were worth the money, along with a fun Vince Camuto printed top I got at Macy’s with a discount and a gift card, and topped with a blazer I found at Forever 21.

My last day there, Sunday, it was my sister in law’s bridal shower, which was absolutely gorgeous, and I wore this hot pink dress my mother in law generously bought me when we hit the Ann Taylor friends &  family sale (no longer online but check in store, 40% off still going on). Normally I would shy away from something with a high necklace and an undefined waist, but I really love this dress and am glad I tried it on. Don’t hold onto rules for what you wear too tightly, sometimes things can surprise you! Right now Mad Men is showing a lot of 60’s wear and I feel like this is inspired a bit from that.

Here we are at the shower, my mother in law on the left, the beautiful bride, and Michael’s grandmother, Nonna.

For today’s post, I am participating in Marionberry’s Trend of the Month Challenge: Flower Power! I decided I would try and give you all a change of scenery given our sunny day here in Seattle yesterday and take my pictures out on our condo building terrace. The wind definitely gave me some trouble, but I managed to get a few good shots. Hopefully I will be able to take photos out there more often!

Floral prints are huge for Spring and Summer, but I don’t have many unfortunately. I wasn’t even sure what I was going to do for this challenge, but then I remembered I had this floral skirt I picked up in Italy on my honeymoon so built around that (seen before here). It is a little bit of an abstract floral, but I’m working with what I have!

Are you wearing floral prints this year? Be sure to check out Marion’s link up tomorrow to see how all of the awesome bloggers wear their flower power!

My cousin Lisa came over for dinner last night and she makes a great guinea pig so I decided to try a new recipe – Meatloaf “Cupcakes” with Sweet & Spicy Butternut Squash “frosting”. They were delicious and surprisingly easy!

Here is the recipe I used for the meatloaf cupcakes. Only things I did differently: used coconut oil instead of butter for sauteeing my veggies (but some good old Kerrygold just fine too), used a steak seasoning I had on hand instead of Mrs. Dash, and then I just used some plain tomato paste instead of the chili sauce or ketchup she recommends. I also obviously changed the “frosting” part too.

My butternut squash frosting was this recipe with 2 Tbsp. of coconut milk added to make it a little creamier. I then put the butternut squash mash into a ziploc bag, cut off the tip of one end and used it as a pastry bag to top my meatloaf cupcakes.

I served along with sliced zucchini, bell pepper, and cherry tomatoes sauteed in butter seasoned with sea salt, pepper and garlic salt.

So amazing!!

I’m really starting to think that my style motto should be “Leopard makes everything better”. I figured I needed to get some more use out of this tutleneck before Winter ends (although let’s be realistic, in Seattle that is probably May) so I decided to simply pair with my black ponte pants, but then add my leopard print shoes for an extra pop. I was also contacted by Amy at Bon Lemon about possibly trying out some of their jewelry. She sent me a package full of some great stuff that I can’t wait to feature! Today I am wearing one of the bracelets (close up below) that is available for just $24. I really like the charcoal color and the sparkly detailing.

This morning I realized that I am going to have to start setting an alarm clock… At our old place, we lived just 3 blocks from our Crossfit so Michael would go every morning from 6-7am, then be home just a few minutes after 7am and it would wake me up. But now we live about 8 blocks away so he doesn’t get home until 7:15 or 7:20 and losing those 10 minutes or so puts me in a rush.  Thankfully I can now see everything in my closet which is nice, but it is also easy to stare at all the clothes together wondering what I am going to wear. After a trip to visit my Pinterest inspiration board, and a few minutes of staring, I pulled this together because otherwise I was going to be seri0usly late, and it turns out I really like my last minute outfit! Love it when things just come together, we all know that doesn’t always happen – especially when you are out of time! (and not that I am one to ever be happy to have the clouds come in, but it did make for better picture lighting today)

So I have to share with you all this amazing recipe that I made last night. I was making Michael’s favorite meatloaf for dinner and needed some side dishes, so when I came across this post at Sugarless, Flourless, and Fabulous, I knew I had to give this recommended mashed cauliflower recipe a try. Mine was just cauliflower instead of a cauliflower broccoli mix like Rebecca used, but next time I might try that! This recipe was delicious, I highly recommend!!

A heads up for you Facebook followers, I just finished an album that contains pictures of all of my daily outfits, and I’m also working on one that will contain pictures of my recipes and the link to it. A lot of fashion bloggers do this to make it easy to flip through outfits without having to scroll through the whole blog and I find it very helpful so wanted to make that accessible as well. Please feel free to interact with me there, if there is an item you are wondering about the fit on, or want help tracking something similar down, etc. just let me know!

Now for today’s outfit, I actually wore this same thing a few weeks ago but didn’t get a picture so decided to wear it again today. This dress was an awesome find at H&M and currently in stores for $17 in a number of different colors so if you are looking for an easy long sleeved dress then head over there. I think this dress would be flattering on just about everyone and for those of us in cooler climates, I find it is nice to have some long sleeved options to keep warm without having to do a lot of layering. The first time I wore this I asked Michael what he thought about the dress with the boots. He said he wasn’t sure he liked it. So I said “Really? I think it is sort of Kate Middletonesque”. Now, if you are thinking that he obviously saw the merit in this comparison right away and told me that of course I was right and I obviously looked just like royalty then you are wrong. No, instead in he rolled his eyes and told me not to ask his opinion if I wasn’t going to listen anyway. Well clearly I ignored him because I’m wearing it with the boots again.  : ) Next time some fun heels perhaps?
