Hi Everyone!

I know I have taken a very long blog hiatus, I needed some settling in time here in Chicago. I hit a bit of a rough patch but am back on my feet and absolutely loving it here. I’ve been fortunate enough to make some wonderful and supportive friends, am settled into my new job, and have been enjoying exploring my new city now that our pool is closed. Because it was hard to drag me away from there when it was open!

I will do a post to share my new studio apartment, but in the meantime here is a sneak peek. And Coco was sure to make a cameo!  : )

We’ve had a truly beautiful and warm October so far, but I’ve been getting myself prepared for the coming colder months and have found some great deals! In addition to some shopping, I also decided to give Rent the Runway Unlimited a try and am really enjoying it. They have expanded their options as well which is really exciting. You can pay $159/month for 4 items (used to be 3) that you can exchange as much as you’d like, or you can pay $89/month for 4 items that you keep all month and then send back. Pretty cool! Use my link if you want to give it a try, you can cancel anytime.

I’ve been renting a lot of cute tops as they work with my lifestyle well, but also rented this beautiful royal blue dress for a gala I went to a few months ago. So great to not have to buy anything for it!

Now onto the shopping…

Blondo’s are my favorite winter boots, stylish, relatively affordable, and most importantly waterproof! Perfect for wet and/or snowy climates. I know these will be a staple this winter, I picked them up in the gorgeous taupe as well as the black.

Blondo Tiana Waterproof Bootie

In Chicago I try to walk to and from work weather permitting, and I really hate wearing flats. So I’ve been finding heels that work for my 20 minute or so walk each way, but still look cute for day at the office. Found these great low block heels with a pointy toe.

Sole Society

My new life in Chicago requires more casual and going out clothes that it did in New York. In New York it was very unusual to change between work and the evening activity I had planned, it was just too hard to get around. I had a ton of dresses that I would choose from based on what I had planned. In Chicago however, I can generally head home after work with time to change and freshen up before I head out. It is nice! And fortunately I have plenty of closet space here : )

I have 2 new pair of jeans that are pretty much all I wear anymore. I’ve always been an American Eagle jeans fan, but I finally tried their hi-waist jeans and I’m a convert. They are just high enough, keep their shape, and suck you in. So comfy too. I’m a 4 regular in these.

BP Gray Sweater

I am one of those people who orders a ton of stuff and then returns a lot of it. I’ve done a lot of shopping at Nordstrom and Banana Republic, but I must say, so far Old Navy has really been pulling through for me this season.

I usually hate wearing pants to work because I sit all day long and I find them uncomfortable. But I have lots of cute sweaters and tops that aren’t getting much use these days. Well, not anymore because I found the perfect work pant! I’ve always loved the pixie pant, but would find them uncomfortable after 8 hours and found myself mostly reaching for my black ponte pants from American Eagle. Unfortunately they don’t come in other colors there, so a bit limiting. But Old Navy has made their pixie pant out of ponte fabric in 4 lovely shades, and I’m so excited! Wearing these in the navy as I type this. Seriously so comfortable, a stretchy waistband, and they suck you in! Yay for the sculpt factor. I took a size 4 regular in these. Get them while you can!

Mid-Rise Ponte Knit Pixie Pants

Fell completely in love with these bell sleeve tees – perfect for work and weekend. The material is nice and thick, no need for a cami, and the fit is great. I took a medium and bought in 3 colors!

Semi-Fitted Bell Sleeve Top

Easy dresses that I can wear with bare legs as well as tights are on my must have list. And polka dots! How could I resist. I actually bought this dress in all the patterns and solids, but only the navy and the polka dot fit. I found the sizing to be a little inconsistent, heads up. And it is on the shorter side, if you are over 5’5 I would suggest a tall. I might have needed a tall in some of the other colors that didn’t fit, the hips just sat too high. I took a medium in this.

Ponte Knit Ruffle Sleeve shift dress

I know the chilly days are on the way so I stocked up on a few of these sweater tunics, love the length! Took a medium

Textured Turtleneck Tunic

This ruffle hem sweater is SO cute. I got it in 2 colors. Took a medium but I likely could have done a small. I’m ok with the slouchier fit though. If you aren’t busty or between sizes, would size down.

Ruffle-hem Sweater

If you’re looking for a great layering piece check out this open front cardigan. I’m wearing it today in the light grey over a cream blouse with my navy ponte pants. I took a small in this based on reviews and was happy I did.

What are your favorite finds for the fall/winter season? Happy Shopping!

Hi Everyone!

As summer winds down and we look ahead to fall and winter I figured this was the perfect time to give what seems to be a quarterly life update, as well as some suggestions for things to buy now that will transition your wardrobe into the coming cooler seasons.

Ahhhh life. Well my divorce was finalized in May, and while it didn’t really change a whole lot, it did make it so we could wrap up some loose ends and provided a little closure I suppose. It is bittersweet. I know it is for the best in the long run, but still has some sadness attached. My cousin said it will probably always be a little sad and I think that’s true.

 :

I mentioned back in April a relationship I was hopeful about, but we ended things in June – maybe I had a feeling that was going to happen and why I was so cautious about putting it out there. It is what it is. I was upset and it was hurtful, but I deserve to feel like I am a priority in someone’s life and I like to think I learned a thing or two about not trying to make a relationship work with someone who can’t or isn’t investing as much. And actions speak louder than words.

Just because something ends doesn't mean it never should've been. Remember, you lived, you learned, you grew and you moved on.:

So I’ve been working really hard on keeping busy doing stuff that makes me happy. I’m very extroverted and being alone is hard for me. I get bored and restless easily on my own and that’s something I’m trying to work on. Truthfully other than the first year I moved to Seattle after college (in which I was very depressed), this is the first time I’ve ever lived by myself. Kinda crazy to think about!

Not that I’m sitting at home much though! I spent some fun weekends over the summer in Montauk, it was nice to get away to the beach. I turned 34 July 2nd and some of my besties took me to a Mets game with fireworks to celebrate. There was a beautiful weekend in Chicago with 2 friends exploring the city, and then I just got back from one of my good friend’s birthday weekend in a lake house by the Hudson Valley – 11 awesome ladies, lots of wine, games, and even some horseback riding!

And things aren’t slowing down either – this weekend I’m headed with my dinner/wine club ladies to Sag Harbor and we have a fun day of wine tasting planned. Then my sorority big sis who we call “Bunzie” is coming for a visit the following weekend. Might even be getting away for a last weekend trip somewhere the weekend of the 8th, and then I’m off to Ireland and Scotland for 10 days with my XO alumnae little sis, Dana! So many adventures and I’m just trying to appreciate and enjoy all of it. The holidays will be here before we know it, and we all know how those seem to fly by.

Don't cry over the past, it's gone. Don't stress about the future, it hasn't arrived. Live in the present and make it beautiful.:

Status: Building an empire, finding myself, healing myself, loving myself, being passionate, getting fit, growing friendships, meeting new people & making memories. I should add finding a smart, funny, attractive, honest and romantic woman. And a unicorn while I'm at it.:

So that bring us to the important things – what in the world to wear for all of this? haha

Fall in NYC is my favorite season here – people are back in the city instead of trying to escape it, the weather isn’t too hot, but not freezing yet, and there is just a wonderful energy about it all. When I’m shopping now I’m thinking what can I wear in the next month or two, but also when the temps drop and we are bundling up to survive. Unless we have another winter like last year when it is 70 degrees Christmas Day!

My first tip is dresses – I love dresses. Ones that have black in them, or go well with black, that are short or 3/4 length sleeved. These are perfect for end of summer and fall, but then transition easily by adding some black tights, boots, and you can often even layer the dress over a turtleneck or button down, or add a faux fur vest. Dress them up or down with footwear and accessory choices. (I find dresses with some kind of sleeve are better because you don’t feel like they need a layer as much as you do for sleeveless. They just look better with boots and stuff on their own.)

Here are some current faves:

Dress – Maggy London (Less than $50!) (I’m wearing a 6)

Shoes – Ann Taylor  (obsessed!)

14359235_1459531014074081_6948036820564122194_n

I’m a big fan of black and white stripes although this dress comes in just black and other prints too. Wear this with bare legs and a peep toe bootie now, later with black tights and a white faux fur vest. Old Navy is having 40% off with the code COZY until September 21st so get this for a bargain!

Dress – Old Navy (I have the animal print in a medium)

I’m a huge fan of Old Navy’s t-shirt dresses as well, but I recommend going up one or two sizes from normal, I’m wearing a large here. Also love the colors in this scarf and the necklace is from my Rocksbox this month. Can wear with flat sandals for casual, pumps for work, and throw on tights, booties and a vest when the temps drop.

Next up, you need a great pair of black skinny pants – these will help transition some of your more summery tops to the cooler temps now and then you can layer on the sweaters and boots when the time comes. Highly recommend these – they suck you in but have the perfect amount of stretch, a mid-rise, comfy, and affordable! Unfortunately this adorable top is sold out.

Pants – American Eagle

I love my Old Navy ankle pixie pants and all of the fun colors they come in. Really loving this berry hue that is perfect for cooler temps.

Pants – Old Navy (I wear a 4 typically)

Hmm, what to wear with those pants. I’m partial to a great tunic blouse. You can wear them with skinny jeans and a pump or open toed bootie now, and later add tall boots and a faux fur vest, or pair with your  leather leggings for a night on the town like this look. And these Hue leggings are definitely a must have! Wearing a small in these.

Here are some great tunics I recommend

Tunic – Lush (Less than $30 and comes in all kinds of colors! Wearing a small)

Tunic – Loft (This year’s version of the red one I’m wearing above, highly recommend)

Sleeveless Tunic – Loft (Sleeveless are great for warmer climates and easy to layer a cardigan or blazer over)

Now you need some shoes that we’ve talked about obviously. I used to think open-toe bootie was an oxymoron, but I swear they are the perfect transition shoe! I love these from Sole Society, the lace on the side is so cute! This is also a great neutral color to go with everything.

Last but not least, I think a suede pump, especially in a red or berry shade is another item that you will get lots of use out of in the fall and winter. My red pumps get use now with navy dresses, or jeans and white blouses, and then I put them on over black tights in the winter for a much needed pop of color without bare foot exposure.

Hello Everyone! After an extended absence I am finally back and will do my best to start blogging more regularly again. A lot of changes have happened in my life recently that explain the time off.

Sadly, Michael and I have split up. While this has been very difficult, I know in the end it is the right thing for both of us. We had a lot of good times together and I have no regrets about the time we shared, but I’m now moving forward here in NYC on my own. I’m very grateful for the incredible support I’ve received from friends and family. I’m now getting settled in a cute little studio on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. I’ve also taken a new job as an Executive Assistant at a private equity firm in Midtown East and I’m loving it. My wardrobe will now lean a little more business casual. I hope you all will follow along for my adventures as a single girl, trying to look good on a budget, in the city!

We are having abnormally warm weather here still, but it is supposed to be cooling off next week and fall is fast approaching! Old Navy has some great items out right now to help transition to the next season without breaking the bank. Use code ENJOY for 30% off your women’s purchase!

Thanks for stopping by!

Wearing lots of Old Navy today, and you know what that means – great prices! Anyone else have a hard time finding the perfect tank? Not too tight, not too baggy? Well I’ve finally found it and at this price you can get it in all the colors of the rainbow it fortunately comes in. I’m somewhere between a small and medium in tops at Old Navy but went with a small in this as I wanted it for shorts and skirts so a little more fitted. And these shorts – so comfy! Get them while you can! I’ve also been wearing these sandals non-stop – on sale at Nordstrom Rack and I’ve linked to a similar pair that is available in more sizes.

Thanks for stopping by!

Happy Friday everyone!

We had a wonderful weekend in Seattle and our first day there was gorgeous! The wedding was beautiful and it was so nice to catch up with friends and family.

Michael and I headed down to Pike Place Market for some brunch and to enjoy the weather on Thursday. I wore these cute patterned soft pants, they are so comfortable!

Hope everyone had a good holiday weekend, thanks for stopping by!

I made it back from Nashville! We had so much fun, can’t believe I’d never been there before.

A few weeks back we went to see one of my good friends from high school, Elena, perform in an opera burlesque show – so cool! She’s an amazing opera singer.

I wore a pair of my favorite Old Navy Pixie Pants in this adorable red dot pattern, paired with an old open weave sweater and this denim jacket that is sooooo soft.

Thanks for stopping by, happy hump day!

We had a beautiful day here last week and my hubby came home just in time to take some pictures before I headed out to meet my friend Alice for cocktails in the West Village.

I took advantage of the warmth to break out some bare legs, and threw my must have trench over this look for when the sun went down.

This striped dress is perfect on its own or with some added layers – and it’s such a great deal!

Aren’t dresses just the best? You throw one piece on, maybe add a little jacket and some jewelry and you are out the door. No figuring out proportions and which piece goes with what. And nothing better to keep you cool on a sweltering subway platform. Well no sweltering going on yet, but I’m nothing if not prepared, and I’ve been stocking up on some spring and summer dresses from Old Navy for fabulously low prices! I tend to always order online from Old Navy as they almost always have an extra percentage off there, as well as free shipping and returns for purchases over $50.

Some purchases have gone back, but here is what I’m keeping with sizing info. All of these are on sale now and you can get an additional 35% off today, no code needed!

Jersey Shift Dress – unfortunately this print is out of stock now, but they have it in some cute solids and a stripe! I’m wearing a medium – this dress is less forgiving, I would suggest sizing up unless you want it to be very tight.

ON5

Lace Overlay Ponte-knit Sheath Dress – this is the perfect summer LBD and could even be worn with tights now if you are in a cooler climate. I’m wearing a small.

ON2

Sleeveless Ponte Knit Sheath dress – love the nautical stripe here and pockets! I think this would be perfect for an office setting with a white or navy blazer. I’m wearing a small and may get it hemmed just a bit  (I’m 5’5) .

ON1

Striped Ponte Knit Shift Dress – this dress is a little less shapely than the others, but I got such a good deal on it I’m just going to have the tailor nip in the waist a bit, easy fix. It also comes in a navy stripe that is adorable! I love it, or any of these dresses, with this cute cropped denim jacket I picked up at Loft – now 40% off. The denim is so soft and comfortable! Wearing a small.

ON3

Sleeveless Poplin Shift Dress – this dress is super light and airy, and I love the color and print. Also great paired with a denim jacket or a white blazer.

Happy shopping and have a great weekend!

Went out for karaoke with my sorority sisters this past Friday, so much fun! It was still freezing out but this hot pink sweater was the perfect way to add some color to a black skirt, tights, and booties – a great winter to spring transition piece. I use this polka dot clutch all the time to add pattern to outfits as well – one of my favorite items and it works year round.

Sweater – Old Navy (I’m wearing a Medium), Skirt – Express (similar), Clutch – Ann Taylor (similar and only $35!)

Gah, could it snow anymore?! Seriously it is March and I’m over it. So I’m having fun with some of my new spring items and am planning on featuring winter to spring transition outfits over the next few weeks.

Windowpane prints have been all the rage lately, and I was so excited to get these pants in the mail. I love the Old Navy pixie pants and these were no exception. So many ways to wear a fun black and white print! Plus these are on sale for $25 and an additional 20% off of that through tomorrow. Get yours now! I also picked up the black and white polka dot and red polka dot and can’t wait to play around with those too.

What do you think, would you wear these pants?
