Monday night we headed out to play trivia at a local place, trying to get out and do some new activities. I decided to dress up a bit and pulled out my new denim pencil skirt that I picked up at the Nordstrom Half Yearly sale. I like that this skirt can be dressed up or down and it is a great way to wear denim other than just jeans. I paired with this blouse I picked up awhile back at Forever 21 and my fun floral cork sandals that are still going strong after 3 years!

In case you are wondering, we came in 9th place in trivia, and if it weren’t for the guy my cousin is dating I’m sure it would have been last… guess we better start practicing!

Happy first day of Spring everyone! Hope it actually feels like it is wherever you are. It feels like the dead of Winter here, I was freezing today!

But that doesn’t mean I can’t pretend, right?

So in preparation for Marion’s link up tomorrow where she is hosting Trend of the Month Challenge: Neon I decided to put together an outfit that I will wear when warmer weather eventually does come our way… I admittedly don’t have a ton of neon stuff, but I do love color and think a pop of neon is a fun way to brighten things up – as long as we don’t get too 80’s – I mean if those shirt tie things, the ones that you looped the corner of your shirt through, come back then we are in trouble! : ) I saw this shirt online at Ann Taylor this past weekend and, given I had some gift cards there burning a hole in my pocket and they were having 40% off, I stalked it down at the store. It wasn’t even out on the floor yet so of course I asked the sales guy and he kindly pulled it out of a box for me. It never hurts to ask! I also scored a pair of adorable coral cropped denim jeans – I don’t see them online, but check the stores, the fit is great.

Anyway, back to the neon outfit. I decided this would be fun tucked into my denim pencil skirt and then I added my hot pink shoes for an extra pop of color. Yellow and pink is a great combo I think. So if you are in the majority of the country sucking up the warm weather, for goodness sakes, send it here so I can wear this out of the house! (and perhaps get a tan while I’m at it) Be sure to go to Marionberry Style tomorrow to see how everyone else wears their neon!

ps. this shirt looks more neon in person…

Well Fall officially starts this Friday, and we are having a pretty nice week here in Seattle, so I am taking advantage of the final days of summer by showcasing bare legs, bare toes, and my cotton white blazer. This top I am wearing today hasn’t been worn in quite awhile and has almost hit the Goodwill pile a few times, but has stuck around for some reason. Finally decided it needed to come out if it was going to continue taking up space! I was deciding between wearing a belt or a necklace and went with the necklace. Even though the top is a busy print, I like the accessory addition. Also loving these David Yurman inspired Premier Design bracelets I finally ordered, I really like them layered with my watch. Tonight I am going to get my shoes switched out for Fall shoes and try to organize a bit, my husband is going to the Sounders game and then has a soccer game of his own, so I will have the place all to myself! Funny how when you are single, you get excited when you have someone, but once you are married, a night with your place all alone to get some stuff done can be very exciting! : )

And now a quick and easy dinner recipe since I happened to take a picture of the final product – Bunless Chili Dogs!

Basically I just threw together a chile by sauteeing a diced onion and yellow zucchini I had on hand with a little crushed garlic in a pot, added a pound of grass fed ground beef and sauteed until cooked. Then thew in 2 cans of fire roasted diced tomatoes with green chiles, along with 2 Tbsp of cumin, 1 1/2 Tbsp of chile powder, as well as salt, pepper, and some onion powder to taste and let it simmer for about 15 minutes -so easy! In a skillet warmed up some nitrate free all natural beef hot dogs, and served smothered in chile with a sprinkle of cheese. Very tasty and fast! (I enjoyed this with a cherry tomato and fresh mozzarella salad on the side)

I wore stripes again yesterday I realized! 4 work days in a row! Well, taking a break today with a different pattern. This blouse was sort of in the black hole of my closet, which is sad because I really like it! I am having a major closet purging this weekend so as to be able to remember things like this. Unfortunately I am not going to be getting a bigger closet for a little while, so this is the best solution for now, and honestly do I really need 20 white shirts? The answer to that is yes, when I eventually get the closet of my dreams aka Carrie Bradshaw’s closet in SATC2. Michael might not know this yet, but when we finally get a 3 bedroom condo (which will be awhile, we still have to graduate to 2 bedrooms) there will of course be the guest room (aka kitty play room), and then I’m thinking the 3rd will be Amy’s dream closet. And then none of my shoes will be quarantined to under the bed, and my winter clothes and summer clothes will all be able to live happily together at the same time. It’s good to dream right? : )

Now back to my outfit, also wearing this denim pencil skirt that fits much better now that I had the waist nipped in. You can also see it worn here. A denim pencil skirt is a great item to have as it works year round. Sandals and short sleeves in the summer, a sweater, tights, and boots in the winter.

Do you have a denim pencil skirt? If not, this one at Target is a great deal!
