Last week I headed out with my girls to a wine tasting event in the hotel behind our condo building, lots of fun and discovered a great new wine.

Figured it was a good opportunity to pull out a skirt I haven’t worn in awhile and remix for cooler weather. (seen previously here in warmer days) I added boots over tights and a black sweater, along with gold jewelry and my bright orange purse for a pop of color.

Planning on wearing this skirt next with a white blouse and denim jacket – warm weather get here soon please!

I have an exciting week planned, tomorrow I’m participating in Marionberry Style’s Trend of the Month link up, and Thursday I’m having a giveaway of a fabulous cookbook, so be sure to stop back by.

Last night my good friend, Lorena, and I went to see Elf at the 5th Avenue Theater. I haven’t seen the movie, but it looked fun and I always love the Christmas shows they put on. It was such a cute show! Highly recommend seeing if you get the chance. Now I need to go watch the movie!

I always like to take the opportunity for the holiday show to wear something sparkly, so I pulled out my sequin skirt and made an all black look with a pop of sparkle. I don’t often wear black head to toe, I’m more of a color person, but I like the look when paired with different textures. It is sort of hard to see, but the sleeves on this sweater are sheer so that adds another nice detail. I originally put this one with some different shoes, but the hubby told me it was “too much” (one of his favorite phrases when it comes to my outfits) so I switched to my favorite black suede pumps instead.

What is your favorite sequin item to wear?

Hope you are all having a great week!

Last night I went to my fabulous friend’s, Mollie and Jaymee’s, holiday party at the beautiful Four Seasons in downtown Seattle, followed by dinner out with my husband and a few of his colleagues who are visiting from Boston. Not a bad Tuesday night!

Instead of buying a new dress, I instead had this pink one you’ve seen a few times before here and here shortened a little and paired with my black polka dot tights and a sparkly necklace to “winterize” it. A dress that works for all seasons! That is the great thing about a shift dress. I also had another dress shortened a bit for a party I have on Saturday night, sometimes that is a great way to change up a knee length dress if it is long enough to begin with.

Along with my necklace I also accessorized with a Christmas present that my husband  was forced kindly gave me early, this sequin band for my watch – I love sparkly things! The bands on Michele watches are easy to swap out on your own so it is fun being able to change up my watch look.

What are you wearing for your holiday parties this year?

Hey Everyone! Hope you all had a wonderful and relaxing Thanksgiving!

I made it back safe and sound from Ecuador – whew, what a trip! Truthfully, it wasn’t my favorite trip ever, I prefer vacations with a little more glamour and a little less hiking, but we had a wonderful time with the friend’s we went with and the wedding we attended in Cuenca was beautiful! More to come once I get pictures sorted through – we took a lot.

I’m so happy to be home, back with my kitties and my whole closet! I managed to pack fairly minimally (for me anyhow), and was so tired of all of my stuff toward the end of the trip.

A big thank you to Reina and Meredith for their guest blogging – aren’t they fabulous?

I would have blogged over the last few days, but I haven’t dressed for anything other than Crossfit, I’ve been too busy doing laundry and catching up on work. So today I forced myself to get up and go to the 8am Crossfit class so then I could come home and get dressed up! I’m working at Starbucks right now, and then tonight I’m headed to a charity concert with my friend Mollie at the Crocodile Cafe so I wanted something that could go from day to night. Seeing as how I’ve only worn my color blocked Express sweater dress once before, I decided it was definitely time to pull it out and remix.

It is too cold for bare legs now so I added tights and then my black ankle boots. I used to only wear ankle boots with jeans that covered them, thinking my calves were too big to wear with skirts, but as with many style things, I’ve decided to stop being so self critical and just go for it! I topped this with my leather jacket and I’m feeling pretty rockin’ today : )

This sweater dress is seriously so flattering and on sale now for $50. I actually have it in 2 solid colors as well and may have just ordered it from the Express Black Friday sale in zebra print as well… (thanks to my hubby for letting me use his cell phone to obsessively try and order things when we managed to find a decently fast internet connection on the Galapagos Islands – I was having severe Black Friday shopping withdrawals). I often find sweater dresses cling a little too much and show every lump and bump, but for some reason this one seems to hug curves just right and the ruching hides a multitude of flaws. I must also again remind any of you still suffering in uncomfortable tights to try out these from Commando – they don’t have a waistband so no uncomfortable stomach strangulation! Worth every penny…

Now for a little fashion fun, Sunday night we went out to a wonderful restaurant on the lower Eastside of Manhattan called Beauty & Essex – such a cool place, the restaurant entrance is actually a pawn shop. I figured this was the perfect chance to break out the sequin mini skirt I picked up awhile back, just toned it down with a sweater and tights. I even managed to get my patient sister in law to take some outdoor pictures – the Fall leaves here are beautiful!

I will have one most post tomorrow, then resuming as usual on Monday.

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend! We had a great time at the symphony and then out to dinner on Friday night with our friend’s, Brandon and Amanda. Saturday night I had a fun night out with the girls, and Sunday Michael and I went out for a delicious brunch followed by a doing a few returns downtown, and then relaxing watching a movie for the rest of the afternoon. Wore my faux fur vest out Sunday finally but neglected to take pictures – it is warm and toasty although a little hard to layer under a coat…

Here is Friday night’s outfit and a picture of Amanda and me after the concert. She has such a great sense of style – she offset her gorgeous black and white print sheath dress with edgy shoes, a leather jacket and vintage style earrings. I stuck with a classic black dress that was a hand me down from my mother in law, and jazzed it up with my new polka dots tights. These tights are a brand called Commando that is truly my favorite. Spanx Tight End are great if you are looking for a relatively comfortable control top, but nothing beats the comfort of Commando-  literally no waistband do do any annoying digging. Absolutely worth the  price.  Amanda and I both went with red lips, love it! I decided some red lipstick was a holiday necessity and picked up one from MAC in Russian Red last week.

What do you think about polka dots tights or red lips?

Now for today, we actually have an exciting Monday night planned. Back last year for Christmas I bought Michael a French cooking class Groupon to take together so that is where we are headed tonight. Looking forward to learning something new that I can “Primalize” for the blog hopefully. We finish the 4 hour class with dinner that is supposed to be a little fancy so it was requested we dress up a bit. Well I wanted to look nice and be comfy of course for all that cooking, so what is better than leggings and a sweater dress? I am a bit obsessed I think, I just can’t turn them down! Especially ones with long sleeves as I find them much better for the winter. So when I came across the one I am wearing at Old Navy with a 30% off sale, I just couldn’t turn it down – shopping hiatus immediately forgotten! I don’t wear a lot of brown, I favor black, navy and grey for neutrals, but decided I really liked the heather brown color of this dress and went for it. If you are in the market for a flattering sweater dress, give this one a shot!
