Fashion, Fun, & a little Food

Everyone ready for Thanksgiving? I’m very excited to be hosting this year, my mom and brother will be visiting, and we have a few friends coming as well. I’m leaving my mom in charge of the turkey (that’s what mom’s are good at right?!), but here are the sides I’m planning on:

Grain Free Stuffing

Paleo Green Bean Casserole

Paleo Pumpkin Pie

Slow Cooker Buttery Garlic Herb Mashed Potatoes

Coconut Flour Muffins

Balsamic Brussels Sprouts

Paleo Cranberry Sauce

Yum Yum!

Wore this outfit to dinner on a cold Friday night, perfect to break out some faux fur. I love this tunic button down for layering, it was a great find and is 40% off now! I’m wearing a small.

Hope all my American readers have a fantastic Turkey Day! I’m very thankful for all of you who visit my little blog, it truly means a lot!

Hope you’ve all had a good week! Mine has been pretty busy, last night I went to the NYC Chi Omega Alumnae holiday party which was a ton of fun, such a great group of ladies. Maybe I will make some new friends after all : )

Can’t believe Christmas is so close, I still have shopping to do! That’s what this weekend is for I think.

Yesterday I went out into the very cold weather to run some errands and decided my trusty faux fur vest would do a good job keeping me warm. As for the pants, my friend, Silvana, recommended I try these. I don’t do a lot of shopping at American Eagle, but I must say these pants are awesome and very budget friendly. They are true to size, mine are a 4, and if you decide to try them make sure you get a size that is very tight to start, they do give a little.

Happy Friday!

I thought I walked a lot in Seattle, but it was nothing compared to here in New York. Lots of stair climbing in and out of the subway too. Comfortable boots are a must, especially in the winter when it is cold and I can’t just throw on some “fast flats” and then switch back to heels. My feet would freeze! And boots aren’t as easy to carry around.

For all those New York City bloggers wearing 5 inch heels I figure it is because of one of the reasons below:

1.They have a much higher tolerance for discomfort

2. They plan on cabbing or taking car service

3. They take pictures and then go change

But I believe that fashion and function can be found together, and I’ve been doing my best to track down the best of both worlds for my everyday life.

Here are my comfy boot picks for the winter season:

These Tommy Hilfiger boots are such a sleek riding boot with just enough of a heel to give some lift. $189

My B.O.C. boots are great for all day comfort, and the buckle on the side is perfect for adjusting the calf width. $139.95

On a budget? Try these Old Navy booties for $44.94. Only issue I have is that they don’t come in half sizes. I ended up with a 9 and am just going to put in an insole, the 8 was too snug. I love them in the burgundy and navy too!

If you want a sleek bootie that is a bit dressier, these Sam Edelman’s are a great choice. $139.95

I haven’t tried any of the below personally, but they all get great reviews and have a not too high and not too thin heel for all day comfort.

Loft Booties, love the two tone. $98

And finally another great bootie from Sole Society, could be dressed up or down. $89.95

What do you wear to stay warm, comfy, and stylish in the cold winter months?

Yesterday I went out to do some returns/shopping in Manhattan and I just love it here! So much energy and great people watching. We are having a bit of a cold spell, it even snowed here a little bit this morning. It is supposed to be back in the high 50’s by the weekend though.

I had been wanting to pair my Sole Society booties with a dress, and being a chilly day it was perfect for my Old Navy sweater dress that is very warm. I highly recommend trying if you live in a cold climate. The quality is really nice and the fit isn’t too tight as to show every lump and bump –  a problem I find some sweater dresses to have. Plus it is currently on sale for $20 and they have a 20% off coupon… makes me think I need one in black or red as well…

Thanks for stopping by!

This week is just flying by! I can’t believe it is the weekend already. Tons of stuff going on here trying to get moved out by the end of the month. I am of course trying to spend time with friends as well before we move, so last night I went over to my cousin’s place for dinner with a few friends.

I was very excited to come back from vacation and find a pair of booties from Sole Society waiting for me! I just love everything from there. The shoes are such great quality at amazing prices. I have about 5 pairs of shoes from them on my “buy as soon as I can” list.

This pair that I picked out isn’t something I would ordinarily gravitate towards, but I love that they are a little different and edgy. I paired with Hue leggings that are so thick they really are fine to wear with just a longer top, and added a little pattern to the outfit with a camo scarf that I bought in Vancouver. I’d been wanting to add a little trendy camo to my wardrobe and I thought this seemed like a good way to do it.

Here are some other great picks from Sole Society that I’m loving

These gorgeous suede Nila boots are a fabulous deal at just $129.95

Adore this grey Edelle bootie for $89.95

The Lorin bootie is a cute Western take for $89.95

And finally these pumps are definitely on my wish list for $69.95

Well I have some big news to share with you all that explains why my life has been a little crazy lately, hence the very intermittent blogging… we are moving to New York!

My husband got a new job in the city, so we are in process of trying to find a place to live there and figure out all the logistics of moving across the country over the next few months. A little stressful right now, but I am very excited to experience all that a bigger city has to offer once we get settled in. We are very thankful to have my in-laws there to help make the transition a little easier!

It seems a little vacation is in order in the midst of all the madness, so we are headed down to San Francisco and Napa tomorrow through the weekend to meet up with Michael’s parents. They’ve never been to Northern Cali so we are excited to show them around!

Tonight I headed to happy hour with some girlfriends wearing my burgundy polka dot jeans from last year that I’m still loving, paired with a basic navy tee and favorite booties. I added this fun yellow bracelet that I picked up at a great boutique in New Mexico for a little contrast.

Hope you all have a great week and weekend – I’ll be back next week!

We made it to the weekend finally! Wednesday I headed downtown to work with my friend, Ashley, and I took advantage of the cooler but sunny day to transition my romper into fall. It isn’t cold enough for tights yet, but I will be adding those once we get further into the season. For now I just paired with a blazer, black booties, and a statement necklace.

Anyone else wearing their rompers into the cooler season?

Happy Friday!

Our temperatures dipped to the low 60’s on Tuesday with a little bit of wind so it is starting to feel like fall around here! Although we are back to the high 70’s today, looks like we are headed back to the 60’s for the rest of the week. September weather is always a little bit all over the place.

I took advantage of the cooler temps to pull out my new booties – I love them! If you are still looking for a pair, give these a shot, I recommend going up a half size. This caramel color is a great neutral to work with so many outfits. I was also very excited to find these Old Navy ankle pants that I love in a rich burgundy color. They are such a great fabric that really holds it’s shape while being comfortable.

Thanks for stopping by !

Hey Everyone! Hope you all had a wonderful and relaxing Thanksgiving!

I made it back safe and sound from Ecuador – whew, what a trip! Truthfully, it wasn’t my favorite trip ever, I prefer vacations with a little more glamour and a little less hiking, but we had a wonderful time with the friend’s we went with and the wedding we attended in Cuenca was beautiful! More to come once I get pictures sorted through – we took a lot.

I’m so happy to be home, back with my kitties and my whole closet! I managed to pack fairly minimally (for me anyhow), and was so tired of all of my stuff toward the end of the trip.

A big thank you to Reina and Meredith for their guest blogging – aren’t they fabulous?

I would have blogged over the last few days, but I haven’t dressed for anything other than Crossfit, I’ve been too busy doing laundry and catching up on work. So today I forced myself to get up and go to the 8am Crossfit class so then I could come home and get dressed up! I’m working at Starbucks right now, and then tonight I’m headed to a charity concert with my friend Mollie at the Crocodile Cafe so I wanted something that could go from day to night. Seeing as how I’ve only worn my color blocked Express sweater dress once before, I decided it was definitely time to pull it out and remix.

It is too cold for bare legs now so I added tights and then my black ankle boots. I used to only wear ankle boots with jeans that covered them, thinking my calves were too big to wear with skirts, but as with many style things, I’ve decided to stop being so self critical and just go for it! I topped this with my leather jacket and I’m feeling pretty rockin’ today : )

This sweater dress is seriously so flattering and on sale now for $50. I actually have it in 2 solid colors as well and may have just ordered it from the Express Black Friday sale in zebra print as well… (thanks to my hubby for letting me use his cell phone to obsessively try and order things when we managed to find a decently fast internet connection on the Galapagos Islands – I was having severe Black Friday shopping withdrawals). I often find sweater dresses cling a little too much and show every lump and bump, but for some reason this one seems to hug curves just right and the ruching hides a multitude of flaws. I must also again remind any of you still suffering in uncomfortable tights to try out these from Commando – they don’t have a waistband so no uncomfortable stomach strangulation! Worth every penny…
