Hi Amy! I absolutely love your blog and look forward to it every day around 2:00!! I need your opinion on leopard print pumps. My problem is that I wear a size 5, so there isn’t that much of a selection for me. I adore your leopard print pumps with the black heel but cannot find anything like it in my size. I did, however, find a similar pump but with a brown heel. This is the link: http://www.zappos.com/sam-edelman-portney-new-nude-leopard. Then there’s always the heel with the same fabric as in here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Safari-Leopard-Print-5-Heel-Velvet-Pump-/350512476956?pt=US_Women_s_Shoes&vti=US+Shoe+Size+%28Women%27s%29%095&hash=item905c98dca5. What are your thoughts? I tend to wear a lot of black to work. Do you think the brown heeled leopard print pumps would be alright when wearing a lot of black? I would really appreciate your opinion! Thank you!!

Hey Angie! Thanks so much for following me! It is harder to find shoes when you have such a small foot. I would go with the Sam Edelman ones, those are gorgeous! The others look a little lower quality to me. Consider that heel completely neutral, there won’t be any problem wearing these with black, don’t even give it a second thought!

Fantastic! I was favoring the Sam Edelman ones. And as far as being worried about wearing them with black, I won’t give it a second thought! ;0) Thank you so much for responding to my question and also for my little shoutout reminder on today’s post! It made me smile!!

Hi Amy, I saw your pictures of the Halogen black leather skirt, which looks beautiful. Do you happen to know where I could find this Halogen skirt as it seems Nordstrom is out. Another location or is there a skirt available – approx quality and price range that is currently available with the wide waistband and length that could possibly purchased from another store/designer? Thanks! Carla
December 30, 2011 at 4:37 pm
Hi Carla! Yeah, I got that skirt back in August so not surprised it isn’t there anymore, and I believe Halogen is an exclusive Nordstrom brand. Although I haven’t seen these in person, you might give one a try.
This one is on sale at Nordstrom, but only in a size 12. http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/classiques-entier-atelier-leather-pencil-skirt/3199713?origin=keywordsearch&resultback=600
You could also keep an eye out on ebay for the Halogen one. I am a size 4 in it if that helps.
Let me know if something ends up working out!

Amy, I found a black halogen leather skirt like the one you have, but problem is I don’t know if it will fit – wanted to ask you. I typically wear pencil skirts in size 8 from Banana Republic or Ann Taylor. Would a size 10 work? Please let me know.
February 10, 2012 at 5:40 pm
I’m going to guess an 8 would probably be the best in it, I have a size 4 in it and am generally a 4 in BR and Ann Taylor, but if it is returnable then I would give the 10 a shot. If only it weren’t leather you could get it altered, but that would be tricky here. However, it may just sit a little lower on your hips in the bigger size and work out ok.

Amy – Thanks for such a quick reply. Also, I love that blouse you wore with the black leather skirt that would go with so many things. Is that still available or know of some similar ones online too?
February 10, 2012 at 11:56 pm
I’ve worn the skirt a few times, are you referring to the white button down with ruffles?
February 11, 2012 at 1:27 am
Amy – yes. I did some checking, and I decided I am going to go for the Lauren Mandelle ruffle blouse shirt. I really love the one you have, but this seems to look nice and equal. Have you happened to see it in person by chance?
February 13, 2012 at 10:16 pm
I haven’t seen it in person unfortunately.
February 11, 2012 at 1:28 am
Ohh, per my comment about loving your blouse – I would love to have that one, but since it is no longer avail, I am going for the Lauren one.
I think that will be gorgeous!

Hi Amy, I was wondering if you could tell me where you got our outfit from here: http://lowcarbhighstyle.wordpress.com/2011/12/16/royal-leather/, the first picture with the blue sweater and red stripes, love the casual cute style of it all esp with the white pants! The striped sweater your friend is wearing is nice too!
March 14, 2012 at 4:45 pm
Hi Regan, my sweater is from Ann Taylor and unfortunately no longer available as I got it quite awhile ago. However, my friend Kenzie’s cute t shirt is still available at H&M for only $17! YOu might also check out this cute striped sweater from Ann Taylor – http://www.anntaylor.com/ann/catalog/productDetails.jsp?prodId=269664&colorExplode=false&skuId=10441954&catid=cata000011&productPageType=fullPriceProducts&defaultColor=2024&prodId=269664 and Forever 21 also has a lot of great striped sweaters right now. Hope that helps!

Hi Valerie! Thanks so much! Can you explain a bit what you mean by sitting for your exam? Do you have to be dressed up?
March 28, 2012 at 2:40 pm
Hi! I just love your hair, it’s so pretty. How do you style it every day? I have very fine hair a bit shorter than yours and it so desperately needs some life and volume. Do you use rollers? Curling iron?
March 29, 2012 at 12:46 am
Hi Shannon, thank you for the compliment! My hair is fine as well and not my favorite feature, but we have to work with what we’ve got, right? I use either a 1.5 inch curling iron ala this video – http://www.thesmallthingsblog.com/2011/07/how-to-curl-your-hair-with-curling-iron.html. I don’t section mine off though, I just do small vertical chunks all the way around, then I flip it over and shake it out when I’m done and use Frizz Ease hairspray to hold. When you see me with tighter curls I use a flat iron ala this video http://www.thesmallthingsblog.com/2011/11/curling-with-flat-iron.html. Hope that helps!

I really enjoyed your white blazer post with the different ways you wear your white blazer. I have a really colorful strapless dress that I would like to wear to a wedding but during the chruch ceremony I would like to be coveedr up to be respectful to the church. I wanted to wear a white 3/4 sleeve blazer over it like you did with your maxi dress. Do you think it would be appropriate to wear a white blazer to a wedding? Will I offend the bride?
May 16, 2012 at 3:40 am
Hi Ai! I think a white blazer would be the perfect cover up for a colorful dress, not inappropriate to wear white as a litte topper at all.

Hi Amy! I love your blog!
I would love your input on some work styles for non-plus size curvy girls. I am a 5/’5″ and size 4/6 but have a tiny waist and large Kardashian level hips and behind…Latina blessing and curse 😉 This combination can be tricky as I seem to look silly in skinny pants styles that seem to be in fashion (or maybe I am just doing it wrong). I tend to need things with both structure and stretch to fit my figure otherwise I get gaps in the waist or tugging on the bust/ hips.
We just moved to North Carolina for my residency and I am needing wardrobe updates as my Seattle work wardrobe was too casual and doesn’t translate to the hot weather here!
I’d love your expertise and any links!

Hey Shanna! Hope you and Kevin are doing well! You have a gorgeous figure and I say show it off, just like Kim Kardashian in those skinny pants. I would suggest maybe trying the J Brand leggings – http://rstyle.me/g7xea9m4pe – they have some stretch that would hug your curves. Paired with blouses that have shape but aren’t super tight would be cute, and you can always throw on a blazer with jeans if the weather allows to dress them up. You might also try a straight leg jeans such as the Citizen’s of Humanity Ava cut or Seven straight leg – then you get a slim leg, but perhaps will feel it balances out your hips a little better. Ann Taylor has a slim leg jean that might work too and are a little more budget friendly. One thing you may have to do for pants/skirts though is buy what fits your butt and then just have the waist nipped in to fit at the tailor – it is an easy and inexpensive fix to make sure things fit just right. As you said, stretch, and then a little tailoring will be your friends.
As for work, I would suggest maybe some pencil skirts in perhaps a ponte stretch fabric with blouses tucked in or dresses that are fitted on top with an a-line or fuller skirt (if you need a more professional look, just throw a cotton blazer on over a dress in the summer, and a cardigan or heavier blazer when it is cooler, I love H&M for blazers if you have one, or check Tinley Road brand on Piperlime) – that way the top is what you have to worry about fitting. Wrap dresses also always good for your shape. You could also do a nice trouser with a blouse or sweater when it is cooler, I suggest trying the wide waist band Editor at Express for your shape. http://www.express.com/studio-stretch-wide-waistband-editor-pant-20052-29/control/show/3/index.pro#jsLink
Here are some skirt ideas
Top ideas – I would look for blouses or knits that can be tucked into a pencil skirt or left out over jeans or trousers
Hope that helps! Let me know if you need anything else!

Hey Amy! I’m a huge fan of your blog! I am obsessed with your sense of style. I was wondering if you could maybe do a “Must Have List for Fall 2012” with some very simple and affordable pieces that we can wear casually. I’m really into high waisted flares and was wondering what color blazers are best for fall?? Thanks in advance!!:)
August 16, 2012 at 11:51 pm
Yes, thanks for the suggestion! I will work on this and hope to have out soon.
