Fashion, Fun, & a little Food

Hello readers! Hopefully I still have a few out there!

Coco and I have some very big news to share… we are moving to Chicago!!

Not for a man, not for a job (although hopefully will have both of those soon haha!), just for us to have a fresh start and what I hope will be a fabulous life in our new city. I’ve been traveling to Chicago often over the past year scoping it out to make sure it was the right fit for me. The job market is strong, cost of living is reasonable, and I love the people! I went out by myself on a Saturday night when visiting last month and had a group of friends by the end of the night. Yes, the winter’s will be cold and long, but it isn’t a cake walk here in NYC either.

I’ve rented a gorgeous studio apartment in River North, I can’t wait to make it my own, and Coco will have a lot more space to spend her days lounging as the princess she knows she is. It has all the amenities I’ve never been able to have, like a stunning rooftop pool, gym, and even a golf simulator – might have to pick it up! : )

I’ve been job hunting and have a few possibilities in the works, just having to kind of trust the right thing will come along! This is the first time since I left college that I’ve been unemployed so it is a little scary, but I feel really fortunate that I have the ability to do this. And pretty darn proud of myself for making it happen all on my own!

I will always be grateful for my time here in NYC. New York builds character and I feel like I really found myself in this crazy city. I leave with amazing friendships, incredible memories, and an experience that many people only dream of.

I’m really hoping my spacious new kitchen will get me cooking again, and hoping to get some more outfit blogging in as well once I’m settled in! I head out to Jazz Fest in New Orleans this Saturday to Tuesday, then my mom is flying in to help me pack Wednesday/Thursday, and we head out in the UHaul Friday!

If you’ve been to Chicago or live there, send me your favorite spots or activities to try!

If I can make it here, I’ll make it anywhere… Goodbye New York! xoxo

I had every intention of posting more, I did. I have been putting some outfits on my Facebook page and Instagram still so be sure to follow me there. But honestly life has been tough lately. Having to completely change what I thought life was going to look like hasn’t been easy. At first I felt a sense of freedom, having finally made a hard decision, and there is definitely a freedom that comes from doing whatever you want, whenever you want again. But then the sadness, loneliness, and fear sets in. It is scary, I’m not going to lie. I can’t help but wonder if I will ever find someone to love me again, and dating here isn’t easy. Just ask all my fabulous and beautiful single girlfriends. But you get through each day and hope that each one is easier than the next. I’m very lucky to have lots of wonderful and supportive girlfriends here and around the country, some of them having been in my shoes and come out the other end better than before. My cousin went through a very similar situation to mine and is on the other end of Facebook messenger for me almost daily, reminding me it won’t feel this bad forever. She encouraged me to maybe even blog about it, so here I am : )

I felt before I sort of glossed over things, just wanting to move forward, but of course it is never that easy. And I share my life here so felt it was time to open up a bit more. Maybe some of you have been through or are going through similar situations.

I’ve dipped my toe back in the dating pool a bit and so far I’ve found one guy I really liked who sent me a very lame text ending things after we discovered he was deathly allergic to my cat. Awesome. Like throat closing up allergic. It was crushing to feel that hopeful and see it all end with a text. I’ve also been “catfished” – pretty sure the pictures he used were at least 10 years old. Most have been fine but no sparks. I have made friends through one date with another divorcee though, reminded me it can be nice to have male friends that aren’t just your husband’s friends. And so it goes…

Going into the holidays single for the first time in 8 years is daunting. I have my sorority holiday party tonight that one of my gay besties is attending with me, god bless him. But then I have to hit the work party solo when most people are coupled up and it feels less than awesome.

So that’s where I’m at right now! I’m really hoping once the holidays pass my spirits will lift and I will find the motivation I need to get back at it. Or who knows, maybe the holiday spirit will catch on sooner than later, or at least the sales : )

On a positive note I’m still loving my new place, and Coco is very happy and settled in. Work is going really well and I’m happy to have a place to go each day with awesome co-workers.

I really appreciate you all for following along with my sporadic posting, and your supportive comments mean a lot.

xoxo, Amy

Hi everyone! Happy Hump Day! So I asked for some ideas on things to post about on my Facebook page yesterday and had some requests! I think I am covering most of them here, faux fur vests, boots, and grey jeans for girls with some curves. My mom asked for casual holiday outfit ideas so will work on that, and my friend Piper asked for recipes. This single girl isn’t doing much cooking these days – however I did just make a delicious stew and I didn’t take any pictures but will post the recipe at the bottom of the post – it is for a slow cooker sweet potato, apple, and chicken stew and it was delicious!

Thanks for stopping by, happy shopping!

Hi there! Back from a wonderful week on the beautiful island of St. Lucia! Had such a great time with my husband and in-laws. We stayed at The Landing there which I highly recommend.

It was so nice to get out of this bitterly cold weather and into some new warm weather items!

I absolutely love this new Eliza J maxi dress – now on sale for less than $100! I took a size 6 in this. It has a built in bra that helps make it comfortable and practical.

Received this tropical print sundress from Express just in time to pack it, so glad I did! I’m wearing a medium. I also found these nude wedges just before we left as well and I love them! So comfy.

I love that this sequin skirt works well for vacation and also for nights out in the city. Skirt here, blouse here. I’m wearing a medium in both.

For the trip home I chose this comfy maxi, love the flattering print. Wearing a medium, but I did have it taken up a bit at the shoulder and needed a hem.

Thanks for stopping by! Hope all of you in this cold have a warm weather vacation planned too!

I’m sure you all know we are getting a major storm here in NYC – Juno is upon us! It actually isn’t as bad as predicted, at least not here in the city, but definitely enjoying a nice cozy day in!

Perfect time to take advantage of some online shopping sales and get some new stuff for either an upcoming warm weather vacation, or to help transition from winter to spring.

Happy Hump Day! Hope everyone had a good weekend, especially if you got Monday off!

Wore this last week to drinks with the girls, trying to break out of my black pants rut – so obviously a black skirt seemed like a good choice! I added some leopard print mid-heels and a sparkly necklace to jazz up the basics. This necklace is from an amazing service called Rocksbox – you pay $19 a month and get 3 pieces of fabulous jewelry. You can keep as long as you want, and then when you are ready for some new stuff just send it back and you will get 3 new pieces! And if you love something you can purchase it as well. Get your first month free with code amybff35. Give it a try!

Off to run errands, thanks for stopping by!

Skirt – H&M (similar and on sale!), Turtleneck – Target (similar), Shoes – Sole Society, Necklace – Rocksbox

Monday night I headed to the Elizabeth Arden Red Door Salon for a party and meet and greet with my favorite author, Sophie Kinsella! She writes the Shopaholic series that I’ve been loving since college.

Sophie was so gracious, taking time with every person there, and I got a signed copy of her new book in the series, Shopaholic to the Stars. I’m only through the beginning, but it is fabulous!

I wore my striped, sort of 60’s mod sweater dress, leggings, and burgundy booties to add a little color. I topped with my trusty quilted leather jacket, which is still going strong after 3 years!

Thanks for stopping by!

Dress – Old Navy (on sale for only $32!), Booties – Vince Camuto (similar), Leggings – F21, Jacket – Hinge (similar here and here)

Last night we headed out in the West Village with my in-laws for dinner, one of my favorite areas of the city. It is starting to cool off here, and I find leather or faux leather to be perfect for summer to fall transitional wear. I added an extra pop of color to the teal and cream palate with my purple purse.

Hope everyone has a fabulous weekend!

Top – Express (similar), Pants – Loft (similar), Shoes – Ann Taylor, Bag – Michael Kors (similar)

Wore this out to run errands and do a little work. A drapey chambray shirt is a great basic year round! I threw on this bright patterned scarf to jazz everything up a bit.

Happy Friday!

Shirt – Loft (50% off today!), Jeans – American Eagle, Scarf – Express (similar), Shoes – Loft

There’s nothing like an easy dress to throw on when it’s hot outside. No one needs a tight waistband when they are sweating in the subway station, or in the car before the AC kicks in, right? Here are some great choices that won’t break the bank, so you can get more than one of course : )

Loft is having 40% off right now, so don’t wait

Graphic Print Crossover Dress – I took an XS in this

Striped Pleated Skirt Dress – I ended up with a 4 Petite in this, and I’m 5’5. You might want to try a Petite unless you are tall or have a long torso.

imageService (1)

Cutout Back Maxi Dress – Love that you can wear a regular bra with this while showing just a little skin. I took a small.

imageService (2)

Old Navy is also having a great sale on all of their dresses right now

Orange is having a moment right now and this dress is so cute! It actually has a decent amount of shape if you have curves, but I added a skinny belt to add some waist definition. I took a small.

I didn’t get to try this one on but I love the floral print on this sundress.

A little white dress is a summer must have.

And I think we need to throw a few rompers in because they are just as cute and easy as a dress

Love this one in chambray, but size down per reviews

This cotton one is easy to throw on with wedges or even as a swim cover-up. I took a small.

Happy Friday, have a great weekend!
