Fashion, Fun, & a little Food

Author Archives:

One of the most challenging things about living in Seattle is keeping warm in the spring while not dressing for winter. Although I can assure you there are plenty of people still walking around in boots and parkas. Colorful jeans are my go to because they are cheerful but just as warm as regular jeans.

I was heading to lunch and to work at Starbucks yesterday with my work from home friend, Savannah, and decided pulled out my bright coral jeans to plan around. I love the combo of coral and mint, so decided on a white open weave sweater with a mint necklace and topped with my denim jacket to try and stay warm. I was still cold, but fortunately didn’t have to be outside for long!

Almost to the 3 day weekend – whoo hoo!

Well I managed to survive another trip with my crazy sorority sisters and other friends. It was so nice to have some fun in the sun, especially since I’ve had to come home to 50 degree temps and rain – not so fun. If you notice I am blogging less in May and June it is because the grey days and cold temps leave me uninspired – the Springtime Seattle Blues.

But back to more pleasant things, here are some pics from this year’s fabulous trip!

We started the first day out at the Cosmopolitan pool, such a nice hotel!

I’m headed back to Vegas in 6 weeks for a family reunion. I think it will take me about that long to recover!

Ah, yellow. One of my favorite colors to brighten up a grey Seattle day. Sometimes you find that blondes are scared to wear yellow, but not this one! Happy to be linking up for Marionberry Style’s Trend of the Month Challenge: Yellow today. Be sure to go check out how everyone is wearing this fun color.

I’m off to Vegas tomorrow for my annual girl’s trip with my sorority sisters as well as one of my very best friend’s bachelorette party, so hope you all have a fabulous weekend and if I survive the mayhem I will be back next week : )

Hope you all had a fantastic weekend and Mother’s Day! Sorry for my long absence, was feeling like I just needed a little break this last week coming off my travel. And this week I’m packing up again to head to Vegas for the weekend – lots of flying this month!

The wedding I went to in New Mexico was beautiful and we danced all night! I wore what is probably my favorite dress ever, I loved the bright color.

Here I am with my best friend, April, her little sister was the bride. We’ve been friends for 21 years now!

This past Saturday night we headed to my friend Sam’s housewarming party and I took advantage of the above average temps to wear this black and white striped dress I picked up recently. I love that I will also be able to wear it with tights in the Fall too. I took a size 6 in this one. It has been going in and out of stock so if you want to give it a try don’t hesitate!

Friday afternoon my incredibly stylish friend and fellow blogger Mollie and I headed to Nordstrom to check out their newly revamped Savvy department. Mollie always knows how to look effortlessly cool so she was the perfect person to try on some new things with.

I used to eye Savvy as I passed it on my way to other departments, knowing it was way out of my price range. Not anymore! They have completely changed it up and now you will be hard pressed to find anything over $90. The clothes are very on trend, but with items that could work for many different styles and occasions. Some great blazers and skirts mixed in with some things I wouldn’t even know how to wear – but that’s what makes it fun!

I really enjoyed being pushed out of my style comfort zone by trying on some edgier and trendier pieces that will be great to combine with some of my more classic items.

Here was my shopping outfit, Denim & Dots obviously : ) Found this cute little jacket at Nordstrom Rack a few weeks ago and couldn’t resist! (similar for just $20!)

And Mollie’s super cool casual outfit

Some of my favorite items included this gorgeous faux suede jacket that absolutely looks real. A bargain at $92.

Also fell in love with this faux leather skirt, another one that looks like the real deal for just $72. I came home with the cognac one and will be wearing it out on Friday night.

Mollie and I hit the dressing rooms to try on a few things. I fell in love with this edgy maxi dress that wasn’t something I would normally even try on but I’m glad I gave it a shot because it came home with me and is totally different from anything else I own.

I also took home this crochet top that looks adorable tucked into the faux leather skirt, but I plan on wearing it with colored jeans and maybe with my red maxi skirt this summer as well.

My favorite outfit of Mollie’s was these printed pants and black top – so cute!

Don’t forget to check out their funky and affordable jewelry before you leave!

Hope you enjoyed the tour, anyone else been enjoying the new Savvy? Be sure to pop over and check out Mollie’s blog on our Savvy visit too.

Hi everyone, was so busy last week preparing for a trip to New Mexico that I had no time to blog and even mention it! Anyhow, I am here in Albuquerque now with one of my best friend’s, Kara, visiting for the week. We are headed down to Las Cruces, where I grew up, on Thursday to attend a wedding over the weekend and then I will be flying back to Seattle on Sunday. Not sure how much blogging I will get done this week, but I will have a special feature on Wednesday in which my friend Mollie and I will be writing about our recent experience at the revamped Savvy dept. in Nordstrom. Looking forward to sharing that with you all, I got a few really cute things!

Today I’m hanging out working at the McDonald’s watching one of Kara’s adorable daughters, Allie, run around the playground : ) Here we are!

Happy Monday!

I can’t believe it is already Wednesday, this week is flying by! Maybe it is all the sun and above 65 degree temps we are finally getting.

I had a work event in downtown Seattle last night that required “Business Casual” dress. Don’t they know I pretty much only own jeans? Well, it was a good excuse to pull out a pencil skirt and warm enough for bare legs – yes! I carried along my laptop in this cute tote my MIL got me for Christmas.

Happy Hump Day!

Hope your weekend is off to a good start! Mine definitely is. Last night I headed out with my girlfriends to do some karaoke! We went to this place called the Rockbox where you get your own private room, so no waiting through a long line of people waiting to hear your name or listening to songs you don’t like. Such a fun time! Although this morning is a little bit rough as there was a lot of champagne involved…

The outfit I wore was inspired by this picture I found on Pinterest, I loved this gorgeous woman’s pairing of cobalt jeans with a blush blouse and said to myself, “hey, I can do that!”

So here is my version using my blush blouse with gold polka dots that you’ve already seen a number of times before.

Have a wonderful rest of the weekend!

How was everyone’s weekend? Seems so far away now that it is Tuesday…

Yesterday I headed with some girlfriends to dinner for Seattle Restaurant Week, $28 for a delicious 3 course meal, can’t beat that. I was tight on time to get ready and this outfit that Rach at Pink Peonies had on her blog stuck in my head as good inspiration. I’m still a little scared to do denim on denim, so I paired my navy skinnies with a chambray top, and then added my neon pumps and a chunky necklace for some pizzazz. Thanks to my friend Savannah for taking a picture for me!

What is your go-to casual outfit?

Last night the hubby and I had a date night to go see Jersey Boys at the 5th Ave Theatre and it was great! We’ve actually already seen it 3 times, but it is a favorite so we see it any chance we get.

Ah, what to wear. After trying on a few outfits that weren’t quite right, I remembered this outfit that I had pinned from Fash Boulevard and decided to give my polka dot pants with my mint blouse a try. This may be one of my favorite outfits ever, and I never would have thought of doing this blouse with these pants without this inspiration. Thank you bloggers! Despite the less than warm temps I decided to wear these fab ankle strap sandals I picked up at DSW recently on clearance for just $20 – love! The heel isn’t too high and once I break them in they will be very comfortable. (I hope) If you are in the market for polka dots pants, you are in luck, I’ve been seeing a lot of them lately!
