Happy Friday all!
As a former over-packer and consistent traveler, I thought it would be fun to do a travel series to provide ideas and tips to help with packing anxiety. I used to have such anxiety when getting ready for a trip – didn’t I need all the outfit options?! Yeah, no. What you do need is a great suitcase, comfortable neutral shoes, and TSA pre-check! I will post more specifically about destinations as I go, but let’s get the basics out of the way first.
First off, a great carry-on. I call this one the magic bag as I can seriously fit a ridiculous amount of stuff in it, and it fits in those stupid little boxes they sometimes make you stuff it into to prove it isn’t too big. I have occasionally had to remove stuff from the front pocket, but then I just put it right back in as soon as I’m through the boarding door. I pack this with most of my clothing on thin velvet hangers, with other clothes rolled up underneath and around (which makes it very easy to pull everything out when I reach my destination), then I pack shoes, bags, and toiletries in the bottom half. Every friend who has bought this at my recommendation loves it!!!
Traveler’s Choice Hybrid Garment Bag – $78.74
An easy travel outfit – Travel outfits sort of depend on where you are leaving and where you are going to, but my recent go-to has included a number of items from my last post. I’m headed to New Orleans for a wedding this afternoon and here is what I have on:
Fabletics Salar Leggings – These are my go-to black leggings, and I buy them in multiples. They are nice and thick, and the perfect rise for me. I wear a small in these. Another option I sometimes switch these out for is the American Eagle ripped leggings (on sale for just $18!).
On my top half I’m wearing my grey Old Navy luxe tank underneath my pink Loft sheer open cardigan. Note these tanks are longer in real life than on the model so they work well with leggings! (order a tall if you are over 5’6) I wear a medium for an easy fit in the tank, and a small in the cardigan. This is basically an outfit I can do year round for travel, with just a few tweaks.
Footwear depends on destination, weather, etc., but I try to wear a pair of shoes I will use again on the trip. Today I have on these adorable Chuck Taylor sneakers that I’ve become obsessed with. I love the lower cut and they look cute with so many things. Me in flats, who would have thought?! These only come in full sizes, and as usually an 8.5, the 8 fit perfectly.
I also highly recommend wearing or bringing along a pashmina – this one is my favorite and only about $12! I have it in 3 different colors. Big enough to use as a blanket, but easy to wear a scarf, and so soft.
Global Entry/TSA Pre-check – If you don’t already have this, get it! I recommend just doing Global Entry as it really expedites returns from International trips and gives you TSA Pre-check in the meantime. It is such a time saver, and the best part is that they don’t concern themselves if you pack more liquids/gels than fit in a quart size bag. Everything does still need to be under 3 ounces though! I pack all my make-up in this make-up bag, and then all my toiletries in a toiletry tote and haven’t had a single issue. I keep my travel tote full of travel-sized items ready to go at all times, so it is easy to pull out and pack.
My other biggest tip is having go-to neutral shoes that you can dress up or dress down, as well as one-piece items – rompers, dresses, jumpsuits etc. with layers – but I will get to more specifics on those with destination posts.
Hope everyone has a great weekend and more on New Orleans next week!
