My Must Have Basics

I signed up for Rent the Runway unlimited toward the end of last year and am loving it. I find myself buying a lot fewer items that I’m only going to wear once, and instead just renting what I need! They have really expanded their inventory and I tend to get a lot of blouses to wear with jeans for nights out, or dresses for weekends/events. More to come on that!

But I do still need great basics, so here are the things currently on my list of faves! The items I find myself reaching for over and over.

Old Navy Luxe Curved-Hem Tank – I’m obsessed with these tank tops from Old Navy. I buy them in multiples on sale because I’m so afraid they are going to discontinue them. Thick enough to not have to wear a cami under, show your shape without clinging, long enough to cover the crotch to wear with leggings (although if taller than about 5’6 I would order the tall), not too low cut for work but great to wear out as well – really the list goes on. Buy them now in multiple colors! I wear a medium in these, and I’m often a small in other things from Old Navy.

Mid-Rise Ponte Pixie Pants – These ponte pants are my go-to work pants – comfortable but professional, with a stretchy waistband – a must for those of us who sit all day! They keep their shape and wash well, just hang dry. I wear a 4 in these so I’d say they run slightly large/true to size (they are snug in the 4 but I prefer that for shaping purposes).

Sheer Open Cardigan Solid – This cardigan is so perfect for transition weather I bought 4 of them! I’ve been traveling a ton and I wear them over leggings with one of the Old Navy tanks above. Dress up with heels, down with tennis shoes, and mix up the jewelry. The easiest, comfy outfit that takes you anywhere. I wear a small in these which is normal for me at Loft these days.

Sheer Open Cardigan Stripe here and here

Spanx Faux Leather Leggings – I know about 6 women with these, all different shapes and sizes, and we are all equally obsessed. Worth every penny. Dress them up with a blouse and heels and down with a chambray top and sneakers. I’m a medium in these.

Aerie Chill High Waisted Legging – These leggings are my favorite weekend wear, I have them in both the black and army green. Great for travel, lounging around the house, and running errands. I wear with a long cardigan and cute sneakers. Wear a medium in these.

AE White Destroyed High-Waisted Jegging, and AE White High -Waisted Jegging – My favorite white jeans this season, and as you can see from the reviews many agree with me! I run between a 4 and 6 in AE jeans and I’m a 6 in these. The higher waist is great, and they are very comfy and flattering. White jeans are a spring and summer must have for sure!

Calvin Klein Gayle Pointy Toe Pump – Currently working on owning these in every color. But a nude pair of pumps is a go to basic for me, and I’m wearing these for work and weekend. Another big hit with reviewers, these are incredibly comfy and perfect for wear all day and night. I found them to be true to size and took them in my usual 8.5 (although I occasionally wear an 8).

Linea Paolo Felicia Wedge Sneaker – If there is one thing from this list you need, this is it. I get complimented on these every time I wear them. I have them in the light pink and it is the perfect neutral, but I’d love to have them in a few more colors to! If you are adverse to flats like I am, then these are perfect casual footwear. I think these are true to size, an 8.5 was just right.

Katie & Kelly Frilisa Sandal – Last but not least, I wore these sandals in the cognac color so much last summer I grabbed the blush this year as well. Comfortable does not do them justice – truly a great sandal that goes with everything. For this price, don’t hesitate! True to size.
