Happy Friday! So glad the weekend is here!
I spent some time yesterday putting together some more casual holiday outfits, now I just need some events to wear them to! I’m missing my Seattle friends a lot right now, a little sad I won’t get to do any holiday partying with them. But we do have some fun things planned to look forward to so trying to focus on that.
I ordered these red satin pants on whim, thinking they probably wouldn’t fit, but I slipped them on and fell in love! Just like wearing pajamas, but so much chicer : ) I paired with a cozy cashmere sweater and like how the different textures mix. This outfit would be great for a lot of things – a holiday concert, dinner out, or a casual cocktail party.
These pants are so versatile, I put together a 2nd outfit using them and it may be my favorite of the bunch! A fun graphic tee keeps things casual, a blazer adds structure, and a sparkly necklace finishes it off. I think I will wear this when I go out with a friend and her girlfriends next week.
Red, winter white, and emerald, are all fabulous colors and very festive, but why not mix things up with some blues for the season. And paired with white you get a light and bright outfit to stand out in the crowd. I decided to pair a mint sweater that has sparkly sleeves, with my white jeans, and royal blue accents for something a little different. I wore this out with Michael’s co-worker’s for drinks last night.
This outfit is a little bit edgier, and one I would wear any time during the winter! I added a brooch to make it more festive and think it adds some fun contrast.
And finally an outfit with red jeans, a comfy winter white sweater, dressed up with sparkly shoes. Perfect for a casual holiday party. I think I’m going to wear this to Michael’s office holiday party tonight – there is going to be karaoke!
Hope you all have a fabulous weekend doing something fun! : )
Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving weekend! (Those of you in the US anyway) We had a fabulous time with my cousin and her boyfriend, and got to do lots of touristy things like a carriage ride in Central Park – so beautiful! Can’t wait for the Rockefeller Center tree lighting tonight so we can go see that lit up this weekend.
Tis’ the season for holiday parties now and the eternal question, what to wear? I spent last night putting together some outfits for dressier events, and then tomorrow or Thursday I will have Part 2 showcasing more casual holiday outfits. So excited that we finally have room for a tree this year, and it made the perfect festive background for these. I’m also pretty stoked I found the polka dot tree skirt at Marshall’s for $20 – it was just waiting there for me!
This first outfit is my favorite, perhaps because of the polka dots? I plan on wearing this to my sorority alumni holiday party next week. So fun and festive I think.
A fancy sweater dress is always great to have on hand for the holidays. Perfect for chilly nights and would work well for an office holiday party. I plan on wearing this to see a Christmas concert at Carnegie Hall.
I love figuring out new ways to wear my versatile black romper, and it is easy to dress up with a white tuxedo blazer, sparkly necklace, and red heels. I would wear this to a show or a night out to dinner around the holidays.
And finally something a little different – dressy shorts! Perhaps this should have gone in the more casual bracket, but we’ll go with it here. I think this would be a fun outfit for a holiday party at someone’s home, or just a fun night out. Not sure if I’m keeping these shorts, I have this pair from the Loft on the way and I will pick which I like best.
What is your favorite holiday outfit to wear?
Happy Hump Day!
Happy Thanksgiving to you all! I’m very grateful to be spending the holiday here in New York with my cousin, Tami, and her boyfriend, Kevin, who flew up from the Dominican Republic for the week. We will all be headed to my in-laws for a fun and loud Italian Thanksgiving. : )
For the event I made these 3 recipes to take over:
Thanks so much to you all for reading and being a part of my life. It makes me so happy to connect with other people about things that we love – style, shopping, cooking, etc. – and I appreciate all of your support and comments so much.
Have a wonderful holiday with your families!!
Ah, my favorite day of the year is upon us when you can basically walk out of your favorite stores with somewhere around 50% off of everything. And the sales are already starting! The places I usually hit on Black Friday are Ann Taylor, Loft, Express, and then a stop by Victoria’s Secret online store, as they generally have good deals on top of free shipping. And let’s be honest, their shipping costs are generally ridiculous. I usually avoid departments stores because they are just too big on such a crowded shopping day to try and get through.
I think Black Friday is a great time to not only get gifts, but pick up a few new things for holiday parties and such, and maybe purchase the more expensive items that you don’t want to shell out for at full price.
I’m hoping to get out to the stores with my MIL on Friday for a bit, but if not, I will definitely be taking advantage of some online shopping deals. Loft and Ann Taylor are already offering 40% off and Express is at 50% off. I’m hoping Ann Taylor and Loft go up to 50% on Friday!
Here are some things I have my eye on!
Tapestry Jacquard Shorts - I definitely need to get my hands on these to wear with tights, so cute!
Maxi Dress - I love this dress, considering for New Year’s in Navy or Emerald
Romper - I love a Romper for winter with tights and a sweater or blazer
Happy Shopping! What’s on your Black Friday list?
First of all, I have to share this amazing recipe with you all for sweet potato salad. It would be the perfect accompaniment for leftover turkey. I made it as a side when Michael’s family came over to see our place on Tuesday night. It is so easy and you can serve at room temp which means you don’t have to worry about keeping it hot. Give it a try!
Wednesday night we went out to dinner with Michael’s boss, and his wife, to a great little place in the West Village. I had a blackfish that was to die for.
I kept the color palate simple with black and white, and am wearing one of my comfy boot picks. I just love these riding boots! These Hue leggings are so comfortable too. I added a pop of color with this cute cobalt cross body bag that my MIL picked up at DSW for me. And Oliver decided he wanted to say hello : )
Have a fabulous weekend!
I thought I walked a lot in Seattle, but it was nothing compared to here in New York. Lots of stair climbing in and out of the subway too. Comfortable boots are a must, especially in the winter when it is cold and I can’t just throw on some “fast flats” and then switch back to heels. My feet would freeze! And boots aren’t as easy to carry around.
For all those New York City bloggers wearing 5 inch heels I figure it is because of one of the reasons below:
1.They have a much higher tolerance for discomfort
2. They plan on cabbing or taking car service
3. They take pictures and then go change
But I believe that fashion and function can be found together, and I’ve been doing my best to track down the best of both worlds for my everyday life.
Here are my comfy boot picks for the winter season:
These Tommy Hilfiger boots are such a sleek riding boot with just enough of a heel to give some lift. $189
My B.O.C. boots are great for all day comfort, and the buckle on the side is perfect for adjusting the calf width. $139.95
On a budget? Try these Old Navy booties for $44.94. Only issue I have is that they don’t come in half sizes. I ended up with a 9 and am just going to put in an insole, the 8 was too snug. I love them in the burgundy and navy too!
If you want a sleek bootie that is a bit dressier, these Sam Edelman’s are a great choice. $139.95
I haven’t tried any of the below personally, but they all get great reviews and have a not too high and not too thin heel for all day comfort.
Loft Booties, love the two tone. $98
I definitely have my eye on these cute oxford wedges from Sole Society. A steal at $69.95
And finally another great bootie from Sole Society, could be dressed up or down. $89.95
What do you wear to stay warm, comfy, and stylish in the cold winter months?
Yes, I already went back to Seattle for a visit. I had to go back and see the Michael Buble concert – it was amazing and well worth the long trip. That and I got to see my friends of course!
Friday night was the concert and we had to stock up on wine so we didn’t have to miss any of the show refilling our glasses obviously. Michael Buble concerts are kind of funny because getting the crowd to stand up is a bit of a challenge…
But eventually people did! I freaking love Michael Buble, he is such a great performer and so funny. Hope I get to see him at Madison Square Garden sometime in the future…
Saturday my girlfriends and I had a girl’s night out, always a good time, I miss them!
I wore this cute leopard tank I picked up at Nordstrom Rack awhile back and then added this little cropped sweater to stay a little warmer. Shorter sweaters are great to add a little shape to a more voluminous top. I finished things off with my Sole Society studded pumps that I love, they are seriously so comfortable. Sorry for the bad picture, I left my regular camera at home!
I will be back tomorrow with my comfy boot picks for those of you fellow city dwellers, or just those who like to have happy feet!
Yesterday I went out to do some returns/shopping in Manhattan and I just love it here! So much energy and great people watching. We are having a bit of a cold spell, it even snowed here a little bit this morning. It is supposed to be back in the high 50′s by the weekend though.
I had been wanting to pair my Sole Society booties with a dress, and being a chilly day it was perfect for my Old Navy sweater dress that is very warm. I highly recommend trying if you live in a cold climate. The quality is really nice and the fit isn’t too tight as to show every lump and bump – a problem I find some sweater dresses to have. Plus it is currently on sale for $20 and they have a 20% off coupon… makes me think I need one in black or red as well…
Thanks for stopping by!
Well we finally made it here to the Big Apple and are settling in just fine. Our movers showed up with our furniture today which was very exciting, but of course putting everything back together again is exhausting. Unfortunately my closet here is quite a bit smaller so I may be purging a lot of stuff tomorrow!
Last night I headed out to meet my hubby for our first Manhattan dinner. We went to a “pop-up” dinner at a fabulous restaurant that included communal seating. We met a really fun couple at our table who love to eat and travel just like us so we are off to a good start!
Being New York and all, I decided on an all black outfit with pops of color and pattern. I wore my new Sole Society shoes that I love, the low heel makes them very walking friendly, but I recommend going a half size up (Use this link to get 20% off your first purchase). You can see a little of the view from our apartment at night in the pics, we live on the 33rd floor in downtown Brooklyn, so beautiful!
Hoping to get back to more regular blogging now that we are settling in, thanks for stopping by!
Well I finally have a blog to post but am currently living out of a suitcase and sleeping on an air mattress for a few days until we fly out to New York on Saturday, so no outfit posts for awhile. I am excited to get back to some blogging next week hopefully once we get to our new neighborhood!
Saturday night we had a Halloween Party with a “Night at the Movies” theme. It was so much fun and all of our awesome friends got totally decked out.
Michael and I went as Baby and Johnny from “Dirty Dancing”. Michael prefers costumes that don’t require a lot of work : )
Ariel, Sebastian, and the Chef
Betty & Barney Rubble
Antony and Cleopatra
Melanie Daniels from “The Birds” (how awesome is this costume!) and Paulie from “Juno”
Zorro and his Spanish Senorita
Cinderella and the Prince from “Ever After” – isn’t this a beautiful costume?
The House Bunny and Hugh
And last but not least, my personal favorite of the night… Ron Burgundy and Veronica Corningstone!
Hope you all have a fun filled Halloween!! I will be back next week with a New York City update!
